Why do you come to work at Root & Rebound every day? I come to Root & Rebound in an effort to resist a system designed to dehumanize people, disrupt communities, and tear families apart. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and angry when I think about the thousands of currently and formerly incarcerated Californians who can’t access the legal support they need. Rather than letting those feelings consume me, my hope is that the work we do at Root & Rebound helps inform and empower as many of those people as possible.

Rashida Harmon

COntract attorney

Rashida is a Contract Attorney at Root & Rebound.

She graduated cum laude from the University of California Hastings College of the Law in May 2015, earning a J.D. with a concentration in Social Justice Lawyering.

Soon after graduation, Rashida launched a solo practice as part of the inaugural cohort of the Bay Area Legal Incubator — a program that helps new attorneys build sliding scale law firms. She represents clients in criminal appeals, at parole hearings, and in other post-conviction matters. She has completed clerkships at Justice Now, the Alameda County Public Defender's Office, the California Appellate Project, UnCommon Law, and Root and Rebound.

Rashida received her B.A. with honors in Women's Studies and Journalism from Mills College. She is an attorney licensed to practice in the State of California.

When she’s not practicing law, Rashida enjoys writing songs, cooking, and reading trashy mystery novels. She is a huge nerd about all guitar-driven music created between 1960 and 1995, and gets particularly excited about bands featuring women musicians.
