Are you a Cannabis leader who wants your company and brand to be part of ending the harms created by the War On Drugs, but don’t know where to start? Are you feeling that now, more than ever, in this time of awakening around racial injustice it is time to change and reform your policies to support communities most harmed by mass incarceration?

This one-hour training by national legal advocacy group Root & Rebound is a critical step for social justice-minded companies in the cannabis space to lead the way in the movement for Fair Chance Hiring, in which employers conduct holistic, individualized assessments of job applicants and make conditional employment offers before inquiring about their criminal background. You will leave this training with an understanding of the history of the war on drugs, the development of the legal cannabis industry, an understanding of how to comply with California’s Fair Chance Act, and empowered with the next steps about what YOUR COMPANY can do by making a change today!

WHAT: Join Root & Rebound for a training on Fair Chance Hiring–hiring policies that require all applicants be given the opportunity to introduce themselves and their qualifications for the job before running a background check and assessing a conviction. Through this training, company leaders and HR professionals will learn what Fair Chance Hiring means and looks like in practice, how to make this a reality at your Cannabis company, and the benefits of employing people with records–both for you and your brand. This training is also critical for all Cannabis companies to assure they are in compliance with state law, as states across the country, including California, have passed Fair Chance Hiring laws and made strict practices the rule for all companies to follow.

WHEN: Thursday, July 16th from 12:00pm – 1:30pm.

WHY: Because of the nature of the industry, the legacy of its past, and the moment we find ourselves in as a country, looking deeply at the racial inequities and harms of our criminal legal, police, and incarceration system, now is the time for the Cannabis industry to step up to do its part. Company leaders can begin by hiring from communities that have been most harmed by the War on Drugs for activities that are now legal and profitable in many states. Cannabis employers have a duty and an opportunity to serve as a model of fair and equitable practices in the hiring space and, by doing so, have an opportunity to create a responsible and ethical brand, representing the change that so many cannabis consumers want to see in the companies they patronize.

WHO: This training is ideal for employers and workforce development professionals in the cannabis industry, as well as service providers and attorneys who support people with criminal records. Anyone interested in this topic is welcome.

COST: While attendance is free, we strongly suggest a donation of $50 per attendee to support R&R’s work. You can donate to Root & Rebound here: bit.ly/RootReboundDonate
