South Carolina Summer Legal Internship
Root & Rebound (R&R) is looking for a full-time, in-person law student intern for their Greenville office. Co-located in a homeless services center (Triune Mercy Center) and in partnership with a local reentry social services organization (Soteria CDC), R&R provides holistic legal services to individuals who are criminal-system impacted, meaning that they have been incarcerated or have a criminal record. A legal intern would work directly with clients experiencing collateral consequences by assisting with record cleaning, family law cases, and with issues related to records-based housing and employment discrimination. Additionally, legal interns would assist with screening prison mail, legal research projects, parole and pardon cases, policy advocacy, and more.
A summer intern would also assist with our in-person educational programming, including helping run a clinic in Charleston this July, and possibly reentering prisons or jails as the vaccine becomes more widely available.
This internship is unpaid, but we seek to make it as rich as possible for our interns. As this is an in-person internship, we do require that you have received the COVID-19 vaccination prior to your potential start date. We are also happy to help apply for any fellowship or stipend that a selected intern identifies.
