Employment Status: This is a full-time, exempt role, reporting to the Regional Director of Southern California Advocacy

Location: This position is temporarily remote, with plans to return to our site in Los Angeles gradually, depending on the pandemic and the health and safety of our staff and clients. 

About the Youth Justice Staff Attorney Position: 

R&R, in partnership with the Anti-Recidivism Coalition (ARC), provides wraparound legal-social support to system-impacted ARC members. ARC is a community-based organization that empowers formerly and currently incarcerated people to thrive by providing a support network, comprehensive reentry services, and opportunities to advocate for policy change

R&R now seeks a Youth Justice Staff Attorney to expand its partnership with ARC and work collaboratively with ARC staff to provide holistic, wraparound support for youth (ages 18 – 26) engaged in ARC programming to help them prepare for and navigate legal barriers (e.g., education, housing, employment, family reunification) post-incarceration, with a focus on helping youth remain free from reincarceration. ARC staff working alongside the Youth Justice Staff Attorney will provide case management and linkages to housing and other services. 

Responsibilities & Duties: The Youth Justice Staff Attorney’s responsibilities & duties include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Work onsite at ARC’s Los Angeles office and local youth detention centers to conduct holistic legal intakes of youth to assess for a client’s reentry legal needs;
  • Develop an appropriate legal services plan of action in several areas of reentry, including, but not limited to, record cleaning, family and children, employment, housing, and parole;
  • Provide legal advice, warm referrals, and full representation as needed;
  • Carry and independently manage a client caseload; 
  • Coordinate regular community legal clinics for youth in Los Angeles County; and
  • Elevate the barriers faced by our clients in reentry to create structural and policy change that advances second chance opportunities and social justice. 

Community Education and Partnership:

  • Build partnerships with local community groups and organizations focused on serving youth;
  • Coordinate and lead trainings for directly impacted youth, social service providers, ARC staff, government agencies, and private corporations on key reentry legal topics; and
  • Collaborate with stakeholders such as public defenders and youth advocacy organizations to ensure the wellness and reentry success of justice-impacted youth. 

Fundraising and Resource Development:

  • Assist in efforts to secure and maintain funding for the organization;
  • Maintain necessary records for grant proposals, reports, and audits;
  • Support public relations, development, communications, and storytelling projects; and
  • Other duties as requested based on departmental and/or organizational needs.

Desired Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of post-law school, public interest legal experience;
  • Ability to practice law in the state of CA, in good standing;
  • Ability to manage a demanding case load, take initiative, and meet critical deadlines; 
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with a wide range of clients and stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated dedication to social, racial, and economic justice; 
  • Engaging public speaker to present know-your-rights legal presentations;
  • Ability to travel within California to visit and represent clients; and
  • Proficiency in Spanish.

Compensation & Benefits:

The Youth Justice Staff Attorney role is a full-time, exempt position, with a competitive salary commensurate with experience. Employment benefits at R&R include:

  • Sabbatical Program for eligible employees after five (5) years of service.
