Why do you volunteer at Root & Rebound?

I’m passionate about transforming the prison system, which is corrupt, hypocritical and cruel. We spend billions to keep people in prison and a fraction on preventing incarceration or re-entry support. The system disproportionately impacts poorer communities, people of color and immigrants. And the system itself has no accountability or transparency. I believe that our grandkids and great-grandkids will read about the prison system of today and ask “How did good people allow this to happen?”
Root & Rebound is on the right side of history,¬†because they’re working to help those most impacted by mass incarceration. Someone who just spent years behind bars should be met with resources, support and love, but instead they face obstacles, burdens and judgment. We won’t see change in the system until those most harmed by it are given resources, respect and a future. I’m incredibly fired up to help Root & Rebound push this vision forward.
