Annie Holmes received her Juris Doctor with a Certificate in Public Interest Law in 2017 from DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, IL. During law school, Annie’s public interest internship and clinical experiences included practice areas in unemployment, domestic violence, immigration, sex trafficking, housing, police brutality, and prisoners rights. These experiences sparked a lasting interest in her to work alongside those experiencing injustices because of the carceral system and reentry process. Since 2017, her volunteer work has involved launching and coordinating a prison ministry with a partner organization in Chicago and regular legal research for a legal aid clinic regarding prisoners rights and housing cases. Additionally, Annie pursued a non-traditional use of her law degree through nonprofit management opportunities that she believes have prepared her for this particular role at Root & Rebound. She loves developing and managing nonprofit programs and creating and sustaining volunteer and internship opportunities in organizations to help foster in others a love for meaningful work that has lasting impact.
Annie joined Root & Rebound in 2022 and is very thankful to have the opportunity to work alongside folks navigating the reentry process full-time. In her role as the National Legal Resource Coordinator, Annie seeks to ensure the continued high caliber of legal resources in California, South Carolina, and nationally with annual updates; develop legal resources in new states with sustainable partnerships and stakeholder relationships; and develop structures that will ensure the growth and sustainability of Root & Rebound reentry legal resources across the country.
Annie currently lives in Nashville, TN, with her husband and daughter. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors, hiking, exploring different neighborhoods through parks and restaurants, hosting game nights at her home, and listening to audiobooks.

Why do you come to work at Root & Rebound every day?
I come to work at Root & Rebound everyday because I believe that every human being has equal worth and dignity and that no one should be exempt from basic human rights, regardless of their past. Mass incarceration continues to be one of the greatest injustices in our society today, and no one should have such an uphill battle accessing resources, especially upon reentry. I’m honored to have the opportunity to come to work at Root & Rebound everyday to work alongside folks navigating the reentry process and our ever-growing network of partners nationwide.
