Catherine “Cat” Snyder is a Greenville, SC native. She received her Bachelor’s in Genetics from Clemson University in 2017, and held various medical positions soon after. Although her education was fascinating, Cat felt her true passions lay in the non-profit field. When she became an eviction court observer during the pandemic, she was introduced to the disparities seen between tenant and landlord legal representation, sparking a further interest in legal studies. She joined AmeriCorps shortly after, and is now serving her second term at Root & Rebound.

Why do you come to work at Root & Rebound every day?

To quote Bryan Stevenson: “The opposite of poverty is not wealth. In too many places, the opposite of poverty is justice.” Especially in the South, I believe that lack of resources keeps individuals stuck in a system that has catastrophic effects on the individual, their family, and
their community. It is beyond important to me that these individuals are treated as equally as those that have the resources to do so.
