Greta graduated from Calvin University in 2021 with a B.A. in Sociology, and a minor in Biology. Her passion for community involvement and outreach can be traced back to Michigan where she is from. Her sociology degree focused on community driven learning, which helped her connect and serve with an urban farm nonprofit which focused on giving youth second chances through empowering employment opportunities. She learned that caring for a community is best done by listening to those most affected, learning from their experiences, and prioritizing meeting those needs and requests first. She hopes to bring this listen first philosophy to her VISTA position.

Greta is Root & Rebound’s Southern California Outreach and Partnerships Coordinator Americorps VISTA. Her work will focus on connecting with other reentry organizations, listening to community members’ experiences, and helping client’s gain access to the services they need to support their lives.

Why do you come to work at Root & Rebound every day?

I come to work at Root and Rebound everyday for the people: our clients and coworkers. I am driven to serve because of my desire to see our world begin to exhibit the compassion I see at Root and Rebound everyday. My work means that I am taking steps to remind people that we can become a healthier and safer community through acts of healing and forgiveness. I am here to support our community at whatever part of the reentry process they are at.
