Irmalinda Rodriguez is a Social Service Intern from Fresno Pacific University, holding a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work as of May 2022. She is currently a candidate for the Masters of Social Work at the University of Campbellsville in Kentucky. While interning at Root and Rebound and for 6 years before that, she was a Director of Youth Confirmation at her local church. Assisting the families of the community and helping the youth not only grow closer to God, but helping them in their personal struggles as well. Born and raised in Fresno and only knowing of a faith based community, she wanted to come out of her comfort zone and seeked a challenging opportunity that would help her get closer to other parts of her community. To overall, learn more of her community and the reality of the lives of many in my own backyard. She is eager to continue to learn and advocate for those in need and working with a new population has opened her eyes to many needs of the women who have been systematically impacted.

On a personal level, she is a believer, a daughter and a sister. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, going to cute coffee shops, cooking, ministry, going to the movies with her family and allowing Target to let her know what she needs.

Quotes:
“The fruit of love is service, which is compassion in action.” – St. Mother Teresa
“I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it.” – Maya Angelou

Why do you come to work at Root & Rebound every day?

I strongly believe that everyone is deserving of a second chance and I am passionate
about advocating for those who have felt that they have been ignored by society or the
system. There is a root to our sufferings, everything that comes after that is a way that
we cope with those traumatic events in our lives. What is that root? How can we heal
and move forward? I am here to be a voice for those whose voices have been drowned
out by negativity, to give hope and a glimpse of light in the midst of their darkness and
sufferings. I come to work every day, to not make people comfortable, but to make
noise by helping to make a difference in our clients lives and our communities. I am
honored by the opportunity of where the Lord has placed me in my internship and have
already learned so much from our clients and my superiors.
