Lupita graduated from the University of San Francisco in May 2018 with a BA in Sociology and minors in Criminal Justice, Public Service and Community Engagement, and Chicanx-Latinx Studies. While at USF, she was part of the Esther Madriz Diversity Scholars, which lead her to explore her passions of advocacy work, criminal justice, and social change.

She interned for Revolution Messaging as a Digital Strategy Intern in Washington, DC during the 2016 Presidential Election. While there, Lupita helped people learn about their voting rights using text messaging and social media. Being fluent in English and Spanish, she translated content for a Spanish speaking audience.

During her senior year, Lupita was a Democracy Coach to a class of high school juniors through Generation Citizen, a non-profit dedicated to teach students to drive sustainable social change through action. Her class created a curriculum to be implemented in their high school normalizing conversations around dating and domestic violence and petitioned to bring more resources to those affected by dating violence to their high school.

At Root and Rebound, Lupita handles administrative duties for our Executive Director Carmen and our Development Team. She also leads Root & Rebound’s Individual Outreach and Giving.

In her spare time, Lupita is looking for her next show to binge watch and finding her next book to read. She also loves to spend time with her family and her dog, Shiloh.

Why do you come to work at Root & Rebound every day?

Growing up in Richmond, CA, as a daughter of low-income immigrants, I grew up in an environment where I had to face intergenerational obstacles. Understanding the power and dignity education and resources provide in overcoming these obstacles, I strive to ensure that all those who have to face them, have the resources available to live their lives with dignity, respect and humanity.
