Starting her junior year, she joined the Clemson Humanities Prison Initiative, which aims to research the effects of mass incarceration and help those currently incarcerated feel connected to the outside. She has helped foster discussions about the dangers of mass incarceration and raise money to support their organization to continue the conversation. Currently, she is preparing to visit local prisons to help facilitate recreational and educational activities to the current people incarcerated there. Maille also currently is helping the Criminal Justice faculty at Clemson study the future of virtual reality in the correctional system. The research aims to study how virtual reality can help train those who work in correctional facilities or work for local police.

This semester Maille starts her internship at the Greenville, South Carolina office as a legal clerk. She aims to better understand how to not only be an advocate, but assist in the change that is needed to support her community.

In her free time, she likes to play with her bunny, Moose. She always likes to go to local nature spots to read and spend time with friends. Her main hobbies include film photography and studying astrology.

Why do you come to work at Root & Rebound every day?

I want to be an active member in my community, and work to make sure everyone has access to a healthy, safe life no matter who they are or what is holding them back. Working here has given me a chance to better myself as a person, an advocate, and community member, and I never want to miss a day!
