Monica is Root and Rebound’s Hotline & Direct Services Attorney.

Monica received her B.A. with a double major in Economics and Legal Studies from the University of California, Berkeley and her J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. After law school, Monica served as staff attorney and habeas corpus counsel for the Habeas Corpus Resource Center (HCRC) in San Francisco for nearly seven years. While at HCRC, Monica represented individuals sentenced to death in their habeas corpus petitions in state court. Monica later served as staff attorney at Bay Area Legal Aid where she provided legal assistance to individuals and families in the areas of housing, family law, and consumer law. During law school, Monica worked as a law clerk for public defender’s offices in San Francisco and the District of Columbia, and she served as an editor on the Hastings Law Journal. Immediately prior to joining Root & Rebound, Monica worked as a family law litigator and mediator in the Bay Area.
Monica has served on the East Bay La Raza Lawyer’s Association board of directors, as secretary and member of the EBLRLA Scholarship Fund Board of Directors, and on the Alameda County Bar Association’s Family Law Executive Committee.
