I am a native of South Carolina (the Pee Dee area) and I’m the youngest of five children. I attended Dillon High School and graduated from West Florence High School. I earned a BA in English at the University of South Carolina in 1997. In 2016, I earned a Master of Arts with distinction. Most recently, (May of 2022), I earned my Juris Doctorate from North Carolina Central University School of Law at the age of 47.

Growing up, my parents imparted a strong spirit of perseverance and determination in me. They taught me that despite the challenges life can sometimes present, we are never victims and at any given time we have the power to choose how we will respond to any situation.

I began my career in the information technology industry and pursuing law was never in the cards for me. That changed after my own encounter with justice. I believe the experience served only as a catalyst to ignite a passion lying dormant inside of me. As a woman of color in a male-dominated industry, I am no stranger to the extraordinary effort required of me to advance.

Why do you come to work at Root & Rebound every day?

I work at Root and Rebound because the goals and mission align with my own. Specifically, my team members are some of the most compassionate people I have ever worked with. They love what they do, and they love the clients we serve. Root and Rebound’s genuine desire to improve the lives of the clients we serve is fulfilling and it motivates me to give my best.

Life can seem and feel awfully unfair at times; however, like my mentors at Root and Rebound, I choose to view unfortunate circumstances as opportunities to expand what and how we think as a society. To me, Root and Rebound embodies this and I’m excited to see where the future leads.
