Shannon was born and raised in the Bay Area and lived most of her childhood in Brisbane (a small town near San Francisco). After many years at community colleges and then a short stint working in the dental field, she decided to go back to school and finish her undergrad degree. Toward the end of her undergraduate program she participated in Initiate Justice’s Impacted Leaders Fellowship where she and other system-impacted folks were taught how to advocate for legislative change around mass incarceration. During the fellowship she learned about Root & Rebound and was inspired by the positive impact R&R had on other fellowship participants. In Summer 2021 she graduated from UC Davis with a bachelors in Political Science and a minor in Sociology, and she started to volunteer with R&R. She then completed an AmeriCorps year in 2022 with R&R before her position at R&R as Operations & Administrative Coordinator. Most recently Shannon holds the Programs Specialist position at R&R where she supports our programs and volunteer coordination.

Why do you come to work at Root & Rebound every day?

I come to work at Root and Rebound everyday because of my own experiences helping my loved ones navigate reentry. I’ve seen how one person’s run in with the law can negatively impact an entire family. My hope is that having reentry organizations, like R&R, will help people with records hold space in places they have historically been pushed out of.
